The request
An elected or appointed official (or one in office within the last four years) may ask a state or local government to redact their personal information from records it posts online.
The duty
The government entity that posts the record must honor the request — remove the personal information while keeping the record itself public.
The scope
Personal information means home address, personal phone, personal email and the like — not the official’s name or their public/official contact, which stay public.
The timing
HB26-1422 was signed in 2026 and takes effect in 2026. Verify the exact effective date against the current bill text before relying on it.
